I have proudly called Nottinghamshire home for over 20 years and have witnessed the region’s business landscape evolve significantly during that time.
Home to globally recognised organisations such as Boots, Experian, and Frasers Group, Nottinghamshire also boasts a rapidly expanding and dynamic start-up ecosystem. While the county maintains a strong heritage in manufacturing, it is also emerging as a hub for sectors including biotechnology and pharmaceuticals, information technology, and green energy—creating a truly diverse business community.
The region’s two world-class universities not only contribute cutting-edge research and successful spin-out ventures but also offer access to an exceptional talent pool, essential for sustained business growth.
Strategically located with excellent access to major motorways and close to East Midlands Airport (home to the UK’s largest dedicated air cargo operation), Nottinghamshire offers businesses both national accessibility and global reach.

EXPERT ANALYSIS FROM CEO OF MARKETING NOTTINGHAM & NOTTINGHAMSHIRE
With the recently formed combined authority and a push for further devolution from Mayor Claire, now, feels like a perfect mix for Nottingham to return to the main stage.
We are in the centre of the country, you could say the heart of it, and in fact we are within a four-hour drive time for over 90% of all residence. Our freight and passenger transport are some of the best in the country, though we know there is room for improvement and EMCCA is taking this on.
So, what do we expect for growth, well there are some really strong incentives to be in the East Midlands, not only our connectivity and talent pipeline, affordable housing, great schools and outstanding food, culture and scenery but we have the Freeport and EMIZ (East Midlands Investment Zones) which both have incentive options, new developments in the city centre which will provide new retail, housing and office space alongside the green heart, a space to take in a moment of calm and new industries exploring a return to the region (with Kings Meadow Campus, the old East Midlands Film Studio on the market).
The Midlands Innovation team are establishing a new investment fund through Mindforge, this will co-invest in businesses from across the midlands and is based in Nottingham, the University of Nottingham is working on innovation clusters across the city and start-up and growth support organisations see Nottingham as the next place to be and are locating their hubs with us.
So even in times of international challenge, we are seeing the interest, support and opportunities in and around the city coming to fruition, and I believe that these coming years are there to be seized.
A POSITIVE FUTURE FOR NOTTINGHAM
Global economics, tariffs, tax rises and inflation dominate the media headlines and suffocate the good news in our region. We have a thriving economy in Nottinghamshire and are well poised to capitalise even further.
We have a buoyant advisor and leadership community who benefit from the strategic location and investment opportunities that our region provides. I am delighted to be part of the region and to play my part by keeping the best talent engaged to lead our growth.
