Kirklees Leadership Briefing – Spring 2026
Kirklees is changing faster than many realise. From established manufacturers and professional services firms to scaling SMEs and fast-growing digital businesses, there is a clear momentum across the area

As a specialist executive recruiter working closely with businesses across Kirklees, I spend a significant amount of time analysing leadership trends, growth patterns and hiring activity across the region. Working with organisations across the area gives us a strong perspective on how the local market is evolving - and right now, Kirklees is changing faster than many realise. I am seeing a region building real economic momentum, driven by a mix of established businesses, scaling SMEs and continued public investment.
A few indicators stand out:
- Over 14,000 active businesses operating across Kirklees
- More than 180,000 people employed locally
- Significant regeneration investment, including Huddersfield town centre and transport infrastructure
- Continued growth across manufacturing, healthcare, professional services and digital sectors
At the same time, confidence remains strong. As highlighted in wider regional data, a growing proportion of businesses are planning to increase headcount and invest in growth.
The Leadership Challenge
With that growth comes a clear shift: Many organisations in Kirklees are now at a point where leadership capability is becoming the limiting factor - not opportunity.
We are seeing businesses:
- Transitioning from founder-led to structured leadership
- Scaling operations and entering new markets
- Strengthening governance and reporting
But one challenge comes up consistently: “Finding the right senior leaders is difficult.”
What "Right" Looks Like Now
The most in-demand leaders in the region are those who can:
- Combine commercial thinking with operational delivery
- Build and retain high-performing teams
- Adapt quickly in evolving environments
- Align with the culture and pace of the business
It’s a narrower, and more competitive, talent pool than many expect.
Why This Matters:
Kirklees offers a genuine growth platform:
- Strong business base
- Access to Leeds and Manchester
- Loyal and skilled workforce
But organisations that succeed here will be those who get leadership right, particularly at senior and board level.
Our Perspective
At Pratap Executive, we’re increasingly supporting organisations across Kirklees with:
- Board and senior leadership appointments
- Succession planning
- Market insight and benchmarking
Our focus is simple: helping businesses secure leaders who can drive growth, not just manage it.
Final Thought
Kirklees may still be under the radar, but that’s exactly where the opportunity lies.
For many organisations, the next phase of growth won’t be defined by market conditions, but by the quality of leadership they build.

Having spent much of my career supporting businesses across Kirklees and the wider West Yorkshire market, I’ve seen first-hand how the region has evolved into a highly ambitious and increasingly competitive business environment. From established manufacturers and professional services firms to scaling SMEs and fast-growing digital businesses, there is a clear momentum across the area - but with that growth comes an increasing demand for high-calibre leadership talent.
As a specialist executive recruiter, much of my work has focused on helping organisations secure senior leaders capable of driving growth, leading through change and building long-term success. If it would be valuable to exchange views on how the leadership market is evolving across Kirklees and the wider region, I would welcome a confidential conversation.
