Huddersfield: Where Tradition Meets Transformation in Business
Huddersfield is a town defined by both heritage and ambition. Once world-renowned for its textiles, it is now home to a thriving, diverse business community that is embracing innovation, sustainability and growth. From advanced manufacturing to digital services, Huddersfield is positioning itself as a place where businesses can flourish and talent can thrive.

Huddersfield- a business landscape that is diversifying, innovating, and growing.
Huddersfield may not be the first town or city that springs to mind to most when you say, “Yorkshire”. It is, however, one of the most important parts of our region for a few reasons:
- It has been my home for a large part of my life
- I have prioritised some of my business development and origination time in the region – I have always found buy-in from the local shareholders and leaders to be straightforward because of the personal link.
- It now contains three of our most important clients
Huddersfield is known for its proud industrial past, especially textiles, where it became world-famous for fine worsted wool and cloth production. But the town today is just as much about the future as the past, with a business landscape that is diversifying, innovating, and growing.
A Changing, Growing Economy
The Huddersfield area has seen strong growth in advanced manufacturing, engineering, chemicals, and digital services, building on its heritage while attracting new skills and industries. Businesses are increasingly investing in innovation, sustainability and people- with employers creating high-value jobs and strengthening local supply chains.
Huddersfield is also recognised as an entrepreneurial hub. The University of Huddersfield, Kirklees College, and strong apprenticeship programmes are helping to create a steady pipeline of talent. This link between education and enterprise is critical for employers looking to build resilient, future-ready workforces.
Positive Signals for Business Leaders
- Employment in the Kirklees economy is becoming more diverse, with growth in digital and knowledge-based industries alongside traditional strengths.
- Investment in infrastructure and sustainability is rising, helping businesses to adapt to net-zero goals and compete on an international stage.
- Access to funding, from both private capital and initiatives like the Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund, is enabling small and medium-sized enterprises to scale.
- Productivity in West Yorkshire has been climbing, with Huddersfield contributing strongly thanks to its balance of manufacturing, services, and entrepreneurial growth.
A Collaborative Future
Huddersfield’s business leaders are increasingly working in partnership - across sectors and with education providers - to align skills, support innovation, and ensure the town remains an attractive place to invest. Community institutions, cultural assets, and a strong sense of identity also add to the town’s appeal as both a place to work and a place to live.
Huddersfield is not just a town with a proud past; it is a place where new ideas are taking root, where businesses are growing with confidence and where leadership is looking firmly to the future.
